Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Describes thc application to aerial archaeology of 'one of the largest computer-controlled image processing centres in Europe'. Where there is a lot of archaeological detail to be recorded, or where terrain is uneven, simple graphical constructions for mapping purposes are inadequate and computation of the aerial photographic images is required. The Rhineland system was installed in 1976 at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum, Bonn: photographs are optically scanned, processed and output on to maps or in enhanced image form. Similarly, film from the state mapping service can be scanned with a light pen and treated interactively as required. The same machine is also used for the museum's information retrieval system, and several other applications such as the X-ray scanning of fragile objects within their earth matrices are planned. | |
