This survey of the Loddon Valley was conducted during two seasons of fieldwork in 1990/91. The first was funded by the Berkshire Archaeological Trust and the second by the Berkshire County Council. The reasons for the survey were twofold. In comparison to other parts of the county the Loddon Valley is an area which has received relatively little archaeological investigation. It is also an area under increasing developmental pressure from urban expansion and gravel extraction. This study can be regarded as one component of a longer term strategy for the protection and management of the archaeological heritage. Some forty-four certain and possible clusters of struck flint and pottery ranging in date from Mesolithic to medieval have been interpreted as `sites'. | |||||||||||||||||
