Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The author examines the possibility, suggested by the discovery of two large octagonal late-seventeenth-century pewter candlestick bases found nested together during excavations of Port Royal, Jamaica, that such candlesticks were manufactured and transported in two parts in order to reduce costs, and assembled by a pewterer at their destination. The manufacturing techniques used to produce this type of candlestick are described, and the identity of the maker of some important examples is discussed. | |
