Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The largest excavation of a medieval rural hospital in recent years has concentrated on earthworks, including building platforms, in the north-west corner of the site. Most of the buildings excavated were built of timber, however the hospital chapel building, which has been identified in the eastern half of the site was constructed of stone. The main chapel building dates from the thirteenth century but overlies stone foundations which may have been from an earlier chapel. There is evidence for continuity of occupation in some areas of the site through to at least the sixteenth century. | |||||||
