The abstract describing the content of the publication or report
Abstract:		 An investigation was undertaken by Hertfordshire Archaeological Trust at the site of St Edmund's Church, Dartford. Originally constructed in 1955, the church was being rebuilt on a larger scale. The key area of archaeological features revealed during excavation comprised a dense palimpsest of ditches and pits; several lines of post-holes were also identified and may yet prove to be the remains of dwellings or structures. Although much of the pottery recovered was of handmade coarsewares that could have been of Iron Age or Anglo-Saxon date, some Iron Age vessels were identified. A small amount of Roman material was also recovered. In addition, forty-five individuals from an Anglo-Saxon inhumation cemetery were excavated, although local conditions meant that few were well-preserved. Some initial observations are made on the characteristics of the population. LD
