Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
After a discussion of why archaeology is important, the nature of the archaeological resource and the threat from forestry, the development and operation of the formal systems of communication and consultation between forestry and archaeology are described. The notification system operating in Scotland for the provision of archaeological information to the Forestry Commission is described in detail. Finally, there is some discussion about how the co-operation may develop, aided by recent changes in the forestry grant system. With appendices on management advice (42--4), taken from Historic Scotland's leaflet on monument management, and sources of information and advice in Scotland (45--7). MH |
