Study of a living society - the pueblo villages of the American Southwest - leads to the view that 'tradition' and 'change' are terms unhelpful for the understanding of how sociocultural systems are utilized by real people to deal with real events. The pueblo dwellers exemplify the way a people will synthesize for continuity, rather than succumb to the stress of novelty. |
