Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The animal bone evidence shows a widespread shift from an emphasis on primary (meat) products to greater diversification including both primary and secondary (milk, wool, and traction) products after the end of the Late Neo, about 3300 BC in the Central Balkans. The implications for various traditional explanations for the shift are discussed in the light of the dramatic social, economic, demographic, and mortuary changes at this period. Transhumance may have offered a solution to problems of increased herd size, keeping stock out of growing crops, and the like. Further responses to this article are on pp 743-8, with a concluding reply by author. | |||
