Abstract:
Five main issues are examined: to what extent the anatomical transformation to 'modern' population is associated with significant population dispersal and replacement, or what other mechanism might bring about the transition; how this transition is associated with significant cultural/behavioural changes; what models there might be for such behavioural changes and their regional variants; what mechanisms there might be for major population dispersals, and what interaction between old and new populations; and how far behavioural changes associated with this shift might involve significant shifts in cognitive ability. Were the processes gradual or radical?
