Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Discussion of the problems associated with setting up interpretive centres in archaeologically and environmentally sensitive locations, with particular reference to those proposed for Dunquin (Co Kerry) and Mullaghmore (the Burren, Co Clare), which have now been abandoned as a result of public opposition. Author adds that increasing numbers of tourists will contribute to the deterioration of those archaeological monuments they visit. Also gives an update on the Discovery Programme including a report of an interview with Claire Cotter regarding her excavations at Dun Aonghusa (Aran Islands) in 1992. Work so far indicates that the fort may date originally to the Bronze Age rather than the Iron Age or Early Christian periods as previously thought. | ||||||||
