Brief historical account of eighteenth and nineteenth century limekilns in the Mallow (Co Cork) area, with a discussion of the methods used in burning lime. It is pointed out that to date 85% of the fifty-three limekilns recorded on the Ordnance Survey six inch maps of 1842 have been destroyed or damaged. Includes a descriptive inventory of the fourteen surviving sites. | |
