Abstract:		 Article describing the excavation of extensive Roman deposits in advance of redevelopment at a site at Castle, Northwich. Earlier evidence from the Castle area, which has consistently produced large quantities of Roman material, is summarised. A chronology could not be offered for the fort excavated in 1983 until more work had been done on the artefacts recovered, but much of the pottery from the 1983-86 excavations fell within the first half of the second century AD. It was clear that occupation at Northwich was far more complex than had been realised; a number of problems remained to be resolved. LD
