Abstract:		 In 1999, as a result of a previous desk-based assessment, trial trench evaluation and aerial photographic assessment, an excavation was carried out at Cardinal Distribution Park, Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, revealing a multi-period site with a small number of prehistoric and Roman features. These were succeeded by an early medieval settlement comprising six early Saxon Grubenhäuser, an associated enclosure and field system and traces of post-hole structures. This short-lived fifth- to seventh-century settlement had a predominantly pastoral economy that included livestock rearing and associated activities, such as the spinning and weaving of cloth.
