Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
In 1971 attention was drawn to the evidence for town planning in a group of burhs of the reign of Alfred the Great and Edward the Elder. Recent work has enabled parallels to be drawn with a group of Wessex towns and to suggest planning in New Towns in the reign of Athelstan. Differences in plan between these and the earlier group suggest that there were alterations also in the functions these sites were designed to provide. Includes |
