Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The extensive Holkham Estates of Norfolk (associated with Thomas Coke, 1776-1842) form the focus of a study of documents and buildings demonstrating the technical and economic changes seen in model farms of the Agricultural Revolution. The now familiar rectangular layout was generally adopted by end 18th century to replace the cramped and haphazard arrangement of older farms. Further change was seen from the 1850s on with a swing towards more livestock, more sheds for equipment, and smithies. Today these early model farms are themselves undergoing change and the buildings for study are becoming rarer. | |||||
