Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Investigates differences in the quality of prehistoric Scandinavian knapped flint and offers some potential explanations, including: strategic or situational, where quality is dictated by requirement; apprenticeship; and inherent ability. A questionnaire surveys the characteristics of modern flint knappers and attempts to elicit information about their natural talents in areas of physical and/or mental proficiency, such as in music, chess and patience. Suggests that basic knapping was a competence that all adults in the Stone Age would have learned, although some elements of natural aptitude enabled certain individuals to excel. | ||||||
