Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Expresses concern that the Irish heritage industry is in danger of becoming too tourist-oriented at the expense of projects motivated by native interest. Many projects financed by the European Union's Structural Funds, such as the building of interpretative centres, were rushed and consequently produced much controversy. While tourism may be beneficial by funding heritage conservation, commercial emphasis may lead to factual oversimplification or even falsification. Ends with suggestions regarding the role of the Group in the conservation of the historic landscape. |
