Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Noting the international significance of the discovery of an early hominid tibia (see also 94/1253 et al), this article considers the general importance of the investigations at Boxgrove. Although no absolute dates have yet been obtained, the site has contributed a variety of contextual data from which relative chronology of the Pleistocene may be constructed. In particular the so-called `vole-clock' has been used to establish dates which are contrasted with absolute dates for early hominid finds from Java and elsewhere, casting doubt on previously held theories about the date of human colonisation of Europe. The potential of this data for future debate is noted. | |
