Neutron activation analysis is being employed to determine the differences in concentration of trace elements in samples of pottery from some 80 British medieval kiln sites. The eventual aim is to provide a means of assigning primary sources for pottery found at sites other than kilns. So far the examination has been restricted to sherds from Olney Hyde (Bucks) and Holme-on-Spalding-Moor (Yorks). Very significant differences have been found for the elements lanthanum-140, europium-152 and samarium-153. JM | ||||||||
