Abstract:
A burial accompanied by a puppy (dog or wolfcub) in apparently affectionate relationship was found in a Natufian settlement at Mallaha and radiocarbon-dated to 10th millennium bc. Set alongside other canid material from the same area and period, and taken with other Epipalaeolithic evidence, the Natufian burial tends to confirm that there was a man-dog relationship a millennium or more before domestication of the food animals.
