Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Recent studies suggest that it is not increasing intelligence in hominids which brought about developments in material culture; hence we must look for changes in social circumstances. From 32,000 years ago the scratched signs and the earliest art suggest a system of information exchange, perhaps necessitated by external change such as climatic deterioration causing human groups to scatter, or population growth forcing colonization of new territories. A symbol system, independent of language diversification, would enable them to keep in touch. | ||
