Abstract:
Summary of the unit's ongoing research: analysis of Neolithic, Bronze Age, medieval, and post-medieval human skeletal remains from various sites around Ireland; identification and analysis of animal remains from Dublin Castle; examination of Mesolithic fish bones from Ferriter's Cove (Co Kerry), as well as medieval faunal assemblages from Dublin and Co Tipperary; and archaeobotanical studies of a Bronze Age settlement at Lough Gur (Co Limerick) and an earthen enclosure at Deechomade (Co Sligo). Work is currently being undertaken on medieval timbers and soil samples from medieval sites in Limerick and Dublin cities, while a bibliographic database of published and unpublished literature on environmental archaeology in Ireland is also undergoing compilation.
