Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A Saxon origin is likely for the north aisle and the Hampton Chapel may have been built as the chancel for this first church. Nave and chancel were built in the Norman period and a bell tower added in the fourteenth century. The chapel and north aisle were rebuilt perhaps in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Elizabeth Lewis (30-1) provides a note on `Stoke Charity Church: the roof of the Hampton Chapel' relating the roof to the date of the Hampton tomb in the late fifteenth century. | ||||||||||||
