Since 1949 the chemical composition of over 20,000 early European copper and gold objects has been determined by spectrum analysis. They have been grouped according to the relative quantities of natural impurities in the metal enabling correlation with possible ores or workshops. These "material groups" are mapped in space and time to reveal the origin and spread of metallurgy in Europe. The second volume of Studien zu den Anfängen der Metallurgie now in the press. The first 1400 gold analyses are being prepared for publication. The next problem to be studied is the introduction of copper tin alloys (see also abstracts 69/327, 69/333). MGS | |||
