As part of its centenary project, Treasured Places, the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland conducted an online public vote. The winner was the Lady Victoria Colliery in Newtongrange, Midlothian, which was opened in 1890 and is now home to the Scottish Mining Museum.
