Abstract:		 Overview of the contribution of aerial photography to the study of settlement and the development of the cultural landscape in Bronze Age times. The discovery of new sites and of subsurface features located in or near monuments is emphasised. Aerial photographs are also recognised as historical records of sites subsequently destroyed by development. Concludes that the identification of supposed prestige sites is considered one of the most exciting aspects of aerial photographic research because of their implications for the reconstruction of Bronze Age political organisation.
