Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Provides an overview of the work of the Project which began in 1990 and outlines some of its discoveries. The most common raw material for stone axes in Ireland was porcellanite (from Co Antrim), though locally available mudstone and shale was also important. Extensive trading contacts between Britain, Ireland and the Alps were also found as a result of applying petrological and geochemical analyses to a selection of the artefacts. Closes with a look at the different stages identified in the manufacture of these stone tools and a consideration of the meaning given to the purposeful burial of stones axes in antiquity. | ||||
