Abstract:
Reports results from five sites evaluated in 1994. IA pottery, animal bone, and burnt stone were located at the presumably domestic site at `Fen Farm, Pinchbeck' (Dale Trimble, 12--13), along with ditches that may have formed part of a water management system. `Hagnaby Lock, Stickford' by Dale Trimble (13--15), exhibited pottery, burnt flint and stone, and flint and is thought to be a well preserved BA occupation/industrial activity site. Magnetometer survey was undertaken by the AML at both the above sites. Early Saxon pot scatters were found at `Leaves Lake Drove, Pinchbeck' (15), along with intersecting ditches and gullies. `Baston Drove, Thurlby' (15) revealed RB pottery, including an upright urn, and a well. Finally, `Hoe Hills, Dowsby' (16--19), witnessed excavation at the site of a scatter of predominantly Early Saxon pot, in addition to limited excavation of a barrow from the cemetery site (to see if it was BA or Saxon) and retrieval of palaeosols sealed beneath the mound. The latter three site reports were authored by Tom Lane. Artefacts have only been assessed from the Fen Farm site and the other four site results must therefore be regarded as preliminary. All sites are in Lincolnshire.
