Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The article presents a review of Matthew Johnson's critique of conventional disciplinary approaches to the history and archaeology of landscape (in Ideas of landscape, Oxford 2006). The author agrees on the need for fresh thinking but argues that empiricism is a function of scientific curiosity and procedure, rather than Romanticism or ineffability, and that it is unneccessary and unjustifiable to denigrate conventional landscape archaeology and history studies in order to advocate new ideas. |
