Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Child sexual abuse has become widely acknowledged and reported in Ireland only in the last twenty years, but very little research has been undertaken on its incidence prior to the twentieth century. One archaeological source regarding a possible Bronze Age child sacrifice found at Ballybrew, Wicklow (Co), is considered, together with references to child sexual abuse in three early Irish manuscript sources -- the Irish Penitentials, early law tracts and the Life of St Moling. Closes with a longer discussion on the history and anthropology of child sexual abuse in the twentieth century. | ||||
