Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report Abstract:	Using the evidence of early maps and documentary sources, the article presents an account of the changing land-use patterns within the woodland areas of Richards Castle, including their use as hunting preserves; by local inhabitants for fuel, wood and grazing; and for iron production. It also aims to show that the woods were a profitable source of income for local lords.
