Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The article examines the history of the Hereford Castle site following the Civil War, including its demolition in 1660 and the renting or sale of various parts of the site, and subsequent uses of the land. Topics covered include rental of the Castle Green; the construction of Nelson's Column; the later history of the old Bridwell; Castle Hill; Castle Pool and the Fosse; and St Ethelbert's Well. It is argued that the post-Civil War history of the site is more complex than is usually suggested. | |||
