Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Discusses evidence that Roman, medieval, and later carpenters used the `see-saw' method of rip-sawing large timbers, rather than the pit-sawing method as has previously been assumed. The evidence derives from examination of saw-marks on timbers excavated from sites in London, and is supported by a fourteenth-century illumination. | ||||
