Notes on a survey of part of the Iron Age and Romano-British quern manufacturing site at Wharncliffe Rocks, to the northwest of Sheffield, following the exposure of quern workings by a fire in 1996. The survey recorded details of over 2,300 quern roughouts, along with traces of contemporaneous working floors and tracks. The overwhelming majority of the roughouts identified belonged to the flat-disc type, with a small percentage of beehive type roughouts. | ||||||
