Abstract:
Seven bulk samples from features associated with the abutment produced carbonised cereal remains of hulled barley and hexaploid wheats, as well as a selection of weed and ruderal seeds. Oats, rye, spelt, and bread wheat were present, with the latter possibly more abundant in a third-fourth century sample. A sample with waterlogged preservation indicated natural silting and accumulation of waterborne material rather than a deliberate dump.
