Abstract:
The article challenges the view of Thorncroft Manor, Leatherhead, as an aberration in the oeuvre of its architect, Sir Robert Taylor, arguing that many of the apparent flaws in its design are the result of later alterations, and that the building demonstrates and reinforces Taylor's quest to achieve architectural synthesis outside of Neo-Palladian orthodoxy.
