The abstract describing the content of the publication or report
Abstract:
Report on the excavation of the church, east range and other structures of Sandwell Priory. Walls, architectural details, a sequence of floor surfaces, and many graves were revealed. A waterlogged subsoil resulted in good organic preservation in graves and other features. Pre-priory activity was represented by a large flint assemblage of mainly Mesolithic type, many heat-shattered pebbles, and other objects and features. There was also a well-stratified sequence of post-priory deposits and features, with a large artefact assemblage. Masonry features exposed during the excavation were subsequently consolidated for display. The future archaeological potential of the unexcavated parts of the site was assessed.
