Report summarising the results of an archaeological evaluation in 1994 of the Romano-British civilian settlement. Located on an east-facing spur of land on the western bank of the Smestow Brook, and adjoining a first-century military complex, the settlement contained traces of ditched plot boundaries and enclosures, post-hole structures, and shallow hollow-ways. These features, which are the only civilian ones to have been excavated at Greensforge, were dated in the range from the second to the fourth centuries, although it is impossible to determine if this activity was continuous, because the investigations were limited to evaluation trial-trenching.
