Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Thin-sectioning of the small quantity of pottery obtained indicated that three petrological groups were involved: 1) dolerite tempered ware, 2) vesicular, 3) quartzite tempered (one sherd only). The dolerite could originate within 3-8 miles of the site. This fact, and the lack of decorated pots, suggests that the inhabitants were making their own pottery and not, for chronological or other reasons, acquiring Malvern Hills wares (see 69/489). An examination of thin sections of pottery from the Bronze Age cremation cemetery at Bromfield, 4½ miles away, showed the use of the same tempering material, dolerite, and may indicate a continuity of tradition into EIA times. |
