Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Consideration of the excavated evidence (see 91/588) indicates that a 'normal' garrison - apparently a cohors quingenaria equitata - was only present in Antonine I. In both Flavian and Antonine II periods the garrison was a composite force of parts of two cohortes equitatae (although with only one praetorium). Cavalry were deployed in all periods. The Antonine I/II break involved a complete rebuilding and installation of a more powerful garrison: this calls into question the view that Ant I/II are almost a single phase. |
