Abstract:
Discusses the rocks from which Breton axes were made, and the techniques of manufacture as known so far. Axes were made from Type A dolerite (as at the Plussulien factories, 3300-2100 bc); Type B epidiorites and Type C hornblendeite. Similarities with flint mining sites are noted. It must be recognized that some methods of axe manufacture will have left no trace.
