Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Illustrated account of moulds dating to 1300-800 BC in the National Museum. Technical achievement was very high: two distinct clays were used, one refractory and capable of taking a finely detailed impression, and the other tempered with organic matter for enveloping the first. Vents were not used and the mould parts sometimes show marks of the ties which held-them together. The possibility of smiths specialising in certain types of objects is discussed. Moulds for swords, spearheads, axes, bracelets, socketed knives and pins are figured. | ||
