At the 'Roman Gates' site in Caerleon a barrack block had been thoroughly rebuilt at end 3rd century or later, with a private shrine, suggesting married quarters. Another barrack was rebuilt during 4th century, and finds include a late 4th military belt fitting. Earlier interpretations involving squatter occupation must be abandoned. |
