Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report Abstract:	The archaeological wing of the French CNRS is now established in new buildings at Valbonne where it provides administrative, information, reprographic and laboratory services for 23 archaeological units (addresses provided) in various parts of the country. A central index of archaeological information (RIDA) is being set up on computer, initially as a guide to locations of 6000 periodicals, but ultimately to contain actual archaeological data as well. Distant units can be linked via telephone terminals to the computer services. A major task of the Centre is to help in identifying research priorities and to encourage collaboration between archaeologist and scientist, or indeed between different kinds of archaeologist.
