Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Correspondence and contemporary newspaper reports throw light on the activities of Underwood, whose collection of antiquities from Irish sites in the 1830s and '40s formed the first purchase by the Royal Irish Academy. The documents indicate Underwood's propensity for giving imaginative provenances to some artefacts, and reveal much about the attitudes and practices of Dublin collectors in general and Academy members in particular. |
