Abstract:
The need for standardisation in all types of industrial recording is becoming more acute as the study expands. A simple, workable classification system is presented; it derives from the Standard Industrial Classification which has been in use for nearly twenty years. A simple three-digit number is allotted to each type of industrial building, site or physical feature associated with a particular industrial activity. Further subdivision can be allowed for by introducing a decimal point, eg 002 Waterwheel - 211 Grain milling - 002.211 Water-powered grain mill. Sixteen main headings, each with several subheadings, are listed.
