Rejects Scott's attempt to disprove the four-century lag in the introduction of ironworking (74/2698), on the grounds that the "Lisnacrogher" phase - late 3rd or early 2nd century BC -of the insular middle La Tène swords is the earliest demonstrable time for Irish iron manufacture. Nonetheless, evidence from Navan is eagerly awaited. In reply, Scott sees no need to retreat from his position that iron technology in Ireland dates to 600 BC. |
