Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Evidence that the ringfort played any significant role in medieval Irish society is slim; of c 100 excavated examples the main floruit is 500-1000 AD, and distributional evidence is ambiguous at least. Their obsolescence may be due less to Anglo-Norman pressures than to social change wrought by the unsettled, lawless times of late 1st millennium AD. |
