Abstract:		 Comparative tests were made on eighty-one samples of amber, using four different methods of physical analysis, to determine whether ambers of different origin could be distinguished. The only two methods shown to be of value for this purpose - mass-spectrometry and emission spectroscopy - were able to distinguish ambers from the Baltic area, Romania, Sicily, Canada and the Lebanon. More precise definition might be achieved by combining the two methods. M G S
