Abstract:
Describes the use of the analysis of surpluses in a two-dimensional contingency table for comparison of numbers of animal bone fragments from different archaeological sites. The statistical method excluded from the results the influence of uneven fragmentation of bones belonging to certain species from different sites. It also indicated where one or two domestic species were predominant and allowed reasons to be sought. Data from one Swedish and twenty-four Polish sites of Neo to medieval date were used.
